5 Web Design Tips That Are Crucial for a Professional Site

Your content is not the only thing that is important when it comes to creating a website; the other aspects of it is also equally important. Things such as the overall design, the font that you’re going to use, and site navigation are just some of them that you should be aware of when you want to create a website.

The theme here is for overall usability in the sense that it will be pleasing to the eyes of the beholder as well as it is easy to peruse your site.

If you want to make your website more appealing, here are some crucial tips that will help make your site as professional-looking as possible:

Clutter-Free is Stress-Free

Man, I’ve seen a lot of websites that you literally have to jump through hoops just to get to where you want to be.

That is quite a frustrating experience for me and for other people as well. So, make it a point to have a website that is as clutter-free as possible.

A rule of thumb would be to create your content in such a way that is readable and easy to comprehend. The use of headings and subheadings will also help immensely. And, if you could narrow down the clicks that a user has to make in order to get somewhere they want to, then that would be great!

Put Hierarchy in Mind

As previously mentioned, if your content is going to use some headers just to create a structure that will make it more readable, the same has to be applied to your site navigation.

If you’re using a blogging platform or a content management system, there are plenty of plugins that will help you with that. You could implement “breadcrumbs” for easy navigation and it is also very easy to implement on your website as well.

Readability is Very Important

Although the design should not be overlooked when creating a website, the content should be the king. What I mean by this is that you have to put careful attention in the way you present your content.

Readability should be one of your main priorities and to do this you have to do a couple of things. Make sure that your text’s color is in contrast with the background because having the same color for both will not work and it makes it harder for people to read what you write.

Serif is the font family that is commonly used in word documents, but that is not the case when someone is viewing your website for your content. That is because the fancier Serif font makes it cumbersome to read for most people.

Stick with the Sans Serif font family for easier readability. Now, although I’ve mentioned that you can use Sans Serif as your main font family, do not go overboard and use a lot of different fonts from the tier. Instead, limit your font styles to a maximum of three. This is so that everything will be harmonious and it will not look cluttered due to too much font-style diversity.

Some More Tips for Easy Navigation

It is common practice to embed a link to your homepage right on the logo of your website so that users can just do one click to get back to it.

Menus should be prominent at the top of the screen and make it a point to use a font size that is easy to read (around 16pt should be good enough).

Lastly, you have to put some links on the footer of your content. These links have to be either connected to some of your related content or some parts of your website.

Above All, Stay Mobile-Friendly

More and more people worldwide are using their phones for digital consumption and if you’re not making your website friendly for the platform, you’re truly missing out.
