Baby Care 101: Your Baby and the Flu

Do you love buying baby bibs and baby clothes in Malaysia for your beautiful child? Shopping for your little one is all fun and exciting–one of the many highlights of parenthood. Apart from cherishing these precious moments, make sure that you are prepared to face all the challenges as well.

Keep in mind that once the flu season hits, you need to be intelligent in keeping your infant child safe from viruses. Take note that the flu is a much bigger concern than a cold. Below are some of the most basic things you should know about infants and the flu.

How would you if your child has a cold or flu?

Several people mix these two concepts up. In general, flu symptoms are a lot more severe compared to a mere sore throat and runny nose. Also, common colds in babies come gradually, while flu hits suddenly.

Here are just some of the symptoms you might notice in your kid:

  • Cough with some chest discomfort
    diarrhea, Nausea, and vomiting
  • Fever
  • Aches
  • Chills
  • Weakness and Fatigue
  • Headache

Reach out to your pediatrician the moment you notice any of these health problems. If your baby ended up having flu, she can be at risk for several complications, like pneumonia, ear infections and sinus infections, most especially if she is under 6 months. Quick treatment and medication can help prevent all the troubles.

What is treatment for flu in babies?

Flu in babies around 2 weeks old would require an antiviral drug (Tamiflu). This would work best if taken in day 1 or 2 after the little gets sick.

How long can you expect the child to be ill?

Fever, as well as other symptoms, typically go away within 5 days. However, oftentimes, it takes around 1 or 2 weeks before the baby fully recovers.

What can you do to keep your child comfortable while she is recovering?

See to it that she drinks lots of water, and tons of rest. It’s possible that she would have zero appetite, yet this is not the perfect time to miss out on important nutrients. Try feeding her small meals all throughout the day.
